Romania is a country of living traditions, unmistakable flavours and crafts carefully handed down from generation to generation. Each region tells its own story through authentic products, born of people’s skill, the richness of the land and respect for cultural heritage.
To pay tribute to these values that define Romanian identity, Romfilatelia and the Romanian Post introduce into circulation, on Friday, October 16th, 2026, the postage stamp issue “Made in Romania (I)”, a philatelic journey into the world of traditional Romanian flavours, recognised, appreciated and protected at European level.
Rendered in an original and expressive graphic vision by illustrator Bianca Tulea, the issue comprises four postage stamps and a First Day Cover, bringing to the fore four emblems of the national gastronomic heritage: Telemea de Ibănești, Salam de Sibiu, Cârnați de Pleșcoi and Salată cu icre de știucă de Tulcea.
Telemea de Ibănești (depicted on the postage stamp with the face value of Lei 3), a traditional Romanian cheese and the only product from Romania certified at European Union level as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product, is made exclusively from cow’s milk collected in the Gurghiu Valley (Mureș County). Its distinctive taste and qualities come from the lush, pollution-free pastures and from the natural mineral water, rich in calcium and magnesium, which serves as the brine in which the cheese is matured.
The Telemea de Ibănești produced by S.C. Mirdatod Prod S.R.L. is not salted in the usual way, like other telemea cheeses; instead, it is matured in Orșova brine, drawn naturally from a spring that local people have used for dozens of generations to season cheese and home-cooked dishes.
What wins you over, however, beyond the story and the technical details, is the taste – creamy, full and velvety, a taste that reaches not only your taste buds but also your mind, compelling you, somehow, to change your frame of reference when it comes to telemea.
Salam de Sibiu (illustrated on the postage stamp with the face value of Lei 6), produced by Agricola, is a raw-dried salami with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, prepared according to an authentically Romanian recipe. The careful selection of meat, the blend of spices and maturation with noble mould give it its distinctive taste and characteristic refinement.
For more than 50 years, Agricola has been alongside Romanian families and has been part of the story of meals shared together. Today, its portfolio includes a wide range of products: poultry, raw-dried and cooked-smoked cold meats, eggs and semi-prepared foods. Through its care for quality and its passion for a job well done, Agricola brings flavour to meals and the joy of being together.
Cârnați de Pleșcoi (Pleșcoi sausages), with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, depicted on the postage stamp with the face value of Lei 7, are the company’s flagship product and a symbol of the gastronomy of the Buzău area. They are made from a blend of mutton and beef, from animals raised on pastures lying above natural salt deposits, which gives the meat a distinctive and unmistakable taste. The recipe is completed with carefully measured natural local spices, which contribute both to the flavour and to the preservation of the product. Depending on the maturation and smoking process, the sausages are available in smoked, dried or extra-dried varieties, each retaining the authentic characteristics of the traditional product.
The producer, Comsoradi, a Romanian-owned company founded in 1994, combines experience with a deep respect for local culinary tradition. Its mission is to make the most of authentic Romanian recipes and to carry them forward in a form adapted to modern standards of quality and food safety.
S.C. Comsoradi S.R.L. specialises in the production and sale of meat products and has built its reputation on three essential principles: tradition, quality and authentic taste.
Salată cu icre de știucă de Tulcea (Tulcea pike roe salad), with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, is depicted on the postage stamp with the face value of Lei 21.
One of the most representative gastronomic products of the Danube Delta, Salată cu icre de știucă de Tulcea is a fishermen’s speciality that preserves the culinary traditions of local communities.
Prepared from salted pike roe, roe of Delta fish, sunflower oil, sparkling water and lemon juice, the salad stands out for its authentic taste, creamy texture and whole grains of pike roe, which give it a special flavour.
In 2021, Salată cu icre de știucă de Tulcea was registered at European Union level as a product with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), in recognition of its link with the Tulcea region and with the fishing traditions of the Danube Delta.
In the heart of the Danube Delta, where time flows with the waters and stories are told over a slow fire, the company Deltaica Seafood was born. Founded in 2002, this company is not just a business; it is a family legacy, a promise made to the generations before: to keep the authentic flavours of the Delta alive and to share them with the whole world.
Deltaica lives to the rhythm of the waters. In a hurried world, the company has chosen the path of “slow life” – one in which flavours are built with patience and traditions are preserved through respect and simplicity. At the Deltaica factory, time flows differently: the fish is processed with care, recipes are faithfully followed, and every product carries the natural scent of the Delta and the nobility of a job well done.
Today, Deltaica is among the most highly regarded companies in Romania in the field of fish processing and marketing, recognised for its performance and quality.
All products certified as traditional are entered in the Register of Traditional Products of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the DELTAICA® trademark is registered with OSIM (the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks).
Every recipe bears the hallmark of tradition, yet is made using modern, clean and sustainable technologies that respect both the consumer and nature. In this way, Deltaica turns the simplicity of its ingredients into an authentic experience of natural taste, proving that when food is clean, life becomes healthier too.
Romfilatelia thanks the designer Bianca Tulea, a member of the Illustrators Club, and the representatives of the producing companies – S.C. Mirdatod Prod S.R.L. – Lactate de Ibănești, Agricola, S.C. Comsoradi S.R.L. and Deltaica – for their collaboration in producing this postage stamp issue.
