On the stage of the Bucharest National Opera was held the Anniversary Ceremony “160 years since the founding of the University of Bucharest.”
Speeches were given by the management of the University of Bucharest, the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Romania, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, the Roman-Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Bucharest, by the rectors of the University of Bucharest in the post-Decembrist period.
Written and video messages from the President of Romania and the President of the Romanian Academy were also presented.
Consistent with its permanent concern to promote the great national cultural values, Romfilatelia was invited to mark the anniversary event by launching the postage stamps issue dedicated to a first-ranking institution in the hierarchy of the higher education structure in Romania, the University of Bucharest.
In the images reproduced on the postage stamps, portraits of prominent personalities of the institution were found then and are still found today, as a sign of appreciation, to which is added in the philatelic sheet present on the panel, the portrait of the founder Alexandru Ioan Cuza together with the architecture of the University building, belonging to Alexandru Orăscu.
The image of the postage stamp is a suggestive homage-symbol of Eliade Rădulescu’s statuary personalization for the imposing edifice of the University of Bucharest.
The event was marked by artistic moments performed by soloists of the Bucharest National Opera and a poetry recital.
Today, when we celebrate 160 years since its foundation, the University of Bucharest presents itself as a prestigious institution on an international level, as a landmark of Romanian higher education, open and adapted to multiculturalism and diversity.
