Romfilatelia at the ‘Evening of Values’

Iași, October 14th, 2024

On the feast day of Saint Paraskeva, the ‘Evening of Values’ took place, an event hosted in the ‘Vasile Pogor’ Hall of the Roznovanu Palace, the headquarters of Iași City Hall, with a significant impact on the life of the local community.

This cultural project, deeply cherished by the Iași municipality, highlights the ideas, values, and achievements that define the people who honour the city of Iași and contribute to its growing prestige.

Cristina Popescu, General Manager of Romfilatelia, accepted the invitation of the Mayor of Iași, Mihai Chirica, who awarded her the ‘Pro Amicitie – Pro Fidelitate’ Medal, in gratitude for promoting the values of Iași through postage stamps.

In her speech, Cristina Popescu, General Manager of Romfilatelia, deeply moved and honoured by this recognition, thanked the Mayor of Iași for the medal received, highlighting the role of the postage stamp as a state symbol, alongside the anthem, flag, emblem, and currency, as well as its function as a promoter of national values. She emphasised that the award equally belongs to the Romfilatelia team and mentioned the philatelic projects dedicated to Iași: ‘C. I. Parhon – 150 Years since Birth’, ‘Metropolitan Dosoftei – 400 Years since Birth’, and ‘George Emil Palade – Nobel Prize, 50 Years’. She also noted that the gold medals won by Romfilatelia in recent years at international competitions of the profile have recognised Romanian postage stamps that have also illustrated the values of Iași.

The event was attended by Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, President of the Senate, Acad. Viorel Barbu, President of the Iași Branch of the Romanian Academy, members of the Romanian Parliament and Government, His Eminence Teofan, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina, His Grace Iosif Păuleț, Bishop of the Diocese of Iași, as well as representatives of the local administration, the cultural sector, and the media.

Excellence awards were presented for culture, education, sports, and journalism, as well as for the Romanian diaspora and business excellence. Honorary citizen titles were also awarded.

Romfilatelia congratulates the organisers, as the postage stamp continues its mission as a promoter of national values, including those of Iași, a historic and cultural city, ‘a true Capital of Spirituality’.
