Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) a famous Genovese navigator. He is considered to be the discoverer of America. During the period of 1492-1504, he performed four voyages, discovering most of the islands of the Central and South America (Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, Guadelupa, Jamaica).
The 12th of October 1492, when he discovered the Watling Island of the Bahamas Archipelago, is considered to be the date when America was discovered.
His face is illustrated on the postage stamp having the face value of RON 0.50.
Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) a French painter, created an original art and aestheticism, based on stylizations and syntheses of the form, on a severe and solid construction of the volumes achieved through colour (“The Hanged Man´s House”, “The Card Players”, “Sea at l´Estaque”, “Still Life with Apples and Oranges”).
He is considered to be the greatest innovator of painting at the end of the 19th century, and his paintings are the passage from impressionism to cubism.

Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) a Norwegian playwright, is considered to be the parent of the modern drama. He inaugurated in the world literature the theatre of ideas. His work includes romantic plays (The Crown Pretenders), dramatic poems (Peer Gynt), social dramas (Nora, The Ghosts), dramas of ideas (Hedda Gabler, The Solness Builder).
Born and raised in Norway, Ibsen chose to live abroad for long periods of time. He spent more than 27 years in Germany and Italy. However, he never forgot his origins, choosing Norway as a setting for his plays. Ibsen dramas analyze and criticize the society, and the author masterly describes the existential and psychological conflicts.
